Madhwa community, with its rich heritage, is well known for strong spiritual base received from eminent ancestors. Over generations, there are many Math and similar establishments which actively work to spread this valuable knowledge for the benefit of the community.
The Madhwa population in early years was prominently seen as dense population in South India. However, over last few decades, the northern India as well many abroad locations, have considerable presence of Madhwa community people. There is a considerable section of learned and well established individuals spread across. However, a large number of the people are still in need of support for various reasons. Some of the locations are in deep interior villages where the progress rate is slow, or there is lack of facilities for education or medical needs, or Importantly, the unpredicted natural calamities, or the old age related issues, or some locations where some other community dominance prevails and so on ...
Observing the genuine need in certain cases in Mumbai, some of the like-minded individuals decided to come together for collectively providing the support to those in genuine need. Accordingly, they supported specific Madhwa Pundits financially by collecting contributions from those who were willing to donate. The effort of these volunteers was well appreciated by many.
During year 2019, floods inundated Sangli and Kolhapur regions, and a large population, with a sizeable Madhwa component, was in urgent need of food and other necessities. Responding to the situation, the volunteers collected a handsome amount of Rs.67,000/-, purchased food items and other necessities and dispatched them to the Uttaradi Math, Sangli.
During these interactions with multiple people, the volunteers observed that there were many Madhwa families, including those of pundits, which were in need of such help and that efforts were needed to be made to help them on regular basis, of course, to the extent possible. It was, therefore, decided to formalize the effort by consolidating the contributions volunteers were making individually, and also to request others to contribute every month and use the collected funds to help the community members who needed it very badly.
And with this background “Jayatirtha Seva Sangh”(JSS) was formed in January 2020. With the blessings of Shri Hari, Vayu and Guru, Jayatirtha Seva Sangh is a registered society with charity commissioner of Maharashtra having registration number Greater Mu/0000006/2020.
Subsequently, during Covid lockdown period, JSS committee members worked relentlessly to address multiple requests for treatment, Medicines, daily essentials etc.
Post Covid, JSS decided to focus on specific needs arising due to medical reasons, support for elderly, for education of children and sustenance of needy family.
